World's Largest Cave Explored in Vietnam: Big Pic The biggest known cave in the world is hidden in a jungle in Vietnam, but a team of cavers with the help of a local farmer are exploring its depths. Wind gusts tip the cave hunters off to the location of the Hang Son Doong’s cavernous maw. Howard and Deb Limbert, a husband and wife caving team, began exploring the cave in 2009 and soon found places where the roof formed skylights allowing parts of the jungle to move in and call the cave home. Darryl Granger of Purdue University and part of the team exploring the cave in 2010 says it would be possible to fly a plane through parts of the cave -- though he likely won’t try it. Measuring so far nearly 3,500 meters (11,482 feet) long, reaching in one spot as high as 200 meters (656 feet) and stretching normally 80 meters (262 feet) wide, Hang Son Doong would easily fit a city strip, and could even fit Philadelphia’s City Hall. news.discovery.com/earth/largest-cave-vietnam-110121.html
